If you play in the cloud, November 2026 brings two big stories: Xbox Cloud Gaming is no longer unlimited, and GTA 6 arrives amid a lot of confusion about streaming. Here's the rundown.

Hour limits on Xbox Cloud Gaming

Xbox announced that starting in November 2026, cloud gaming will have a monthly cap based on your Game Pass plan:

  • Game Pass Ultimate: 15 hours per month.
  • Game Pass Premium: 10 hours per month.
  • Game Pass Essential: 5 hours per month.

If you go over, you'll be able to buy extra time from the Xbox Store. There will also be a pay-as-you-go option to play in the cloud without a subscription. Xbox hasn't announced prices yet.

What does that mean? 15 hours a month is about 3 to 4 hours a week. If you played in the cloud every day, you'll hit the cap fast.

GTA 6: out November 19, but not in the cloud on PC

In early October, a report claimed GTA 6 would be playable on Xbox Cloud Gaming from launch day, even on PC. Xbox set the record straight: its chief strategy officer, Matthew Ball, confirmed that GTA 6 launches on Xbox on November 19, but that it won't stream exclusively or to PC.

For now there's no official confirmation that GTA 6 will be playable on Xbox Cloud Gaming on TVs or phones. To play it on launch day, you'll need a console. The PC version has no official date.

Is cloud gaming still worth it?

Yes, especially if you play a few hours a week: it's still the cheapest way to get current games on your TV without buying a console. To make those hours count, use a device that won't lag. The Fire TV Stick 4K Max, with Wi-Fi 6E, is one of the most popular picks for Xbox Cloud Gaming and Amazon Luna.

Want to play with no limits, no internet and no subscription? A retro handheld console like the R36S comes loaded with thousands of classics you can play for as long as you like.
