How to Use, Wash and Care for a Hot Water Bottle Plush

A hot water bottle plush is one of those things you use every month and every winter. With a little simple care it lasts much longer and stays safe. Here's everything you need to know.
How to fill the bottle correctly
- Take the bottle out of the plush before filling it. Never fill it while it's inside.
- Use hot water, never boiling. Freshly boiled water can damage the bottle and cause burns. Let kettle water sit for a few minutes first.
- Fill it only two-thirds full. That keeps it flexible so it molds to your body.
- Squeeze out the air gently before closing it.
- Close the cap tightly and hold it upside down for a few seconds to check for leaks.
- Dry the outside and slide it back into the plush pocket.
How to use it safely
- Don't sit or lie on the bottle: pressure can burst it.
- Don't sleep with a very hot bottle against your skin for hours.
- Children should always use it with adult supervision.
- Empty the bottle after use and let it dry open, upside down.
How to wash the plush
- Always remove the bottle before washing. The bottle never goes in the washing machine.
- Hand wash the plush in warm water with mild soap, or machine wash it on a delicate cycle inside a pillowcase.
- Rinse well so no soap is left behind.
- Air dry it in the shade. Skip the dryer: the heat can damage the plush fabric.
- Once dry, brush it gently to bring the plush texture back.
When to replace the bottle
Check the bottle every so often. If you notice cracks, stiff spots, discoloration or a cap that no longer seals well, it's time to replace it. A bottle in good shape is the difference between a cozy plush and a nasty surprise.
