Since their entry on the scene in 2019, mobile phones with folding screens have gradually transcended from being intriguing innovations to products desired by technology enthusiasts. Although they have not yet reached mass adoption, companies continue to bet on these unique devices that combine compactness with large screen. In this context, Motorola recently launched the Razr 40 Ultra model and Samsung is marking its presence with the presentation of its most recent generations of foldables: the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and the Galaxy Z Fold 5.
The main attraction of the Z Flip 5 lies in its renewed external screen, which is considerably larger than its predecessor and features a format similar to the Motorola model. The previous version, the Galaxy Z Flip 4, featured a modest 1.9-inch external screen that served mainly for basic notifications, however, it was limited for other tasks. Samsung has taken an evolutionary leap by introducing a screen three times larger in its latest model, enabling activities such as responding to WhatsApp messages, watching videos on YouTube or Netflix, exploring Google Maps or making payments, without having to open the device. Additionally, the Flex Window feature provides customization, including informative clocks and graphics. In short, this new multifunctional screen provides a more expansive experience in a compact format.
This new device also enhances the user's photography experience, with its improved front camera that promises to capture the best selfies on the market. The Z Flip 5 allows you to take photos using the external camera, providing access to various settings directly from the external screen. This feature, together with the Snapdragon 8 Generation 2 processor, shared with the Samsung S23, guarantees notable improvements in image processing and portrait refinement.
The drop-shaped closure system of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 ensures complete and secure closure of the device.
On the other hand, the Galaxy Z Fold 5, known to be Samsung's largest foldable, resembles a book with its design that when opened reveals an expansive screen. Despite maintaining the screen dimensions of its predecessor, with 7.6 inches when opened and 6.2 inches when closed, the latest iteration is presented as the thinnest and lightest model to date, with a reduction of 10 grams in its weight. Likewise, it inherits the "perfect fold" in the shape of a drop, characteristic of the Galaxy Z Flip.
Samsung is championing a multitasking experience, with the ability to split the screen into up to three segments, allowing users to interact with multiple apps simultaneously, similar to a computer environment. Additionally, improved two-handed drag and drop promises to increase productivity by simplifying the transfer of content between apps and screens. The new luminosity increased by more than 30% compared to the previous version, allows for better viewing in direct sunlight.
The new Galaxy Z Fold 5 provides an advanced multitasking experience, dividing the screen into up to three parts.
The new Galaxy Watch 6 and Galaxy Watch 6 Classic smartwatches introduce enhanced health and fitness tracking functionalities, reaffirming Samsung's commitment to democratizing advanced health monitoring. The inclusion of the rotating bezel, a feature praised by many users in previous versions, stands out in these models, in addition to a larger and brighter screen. These watches arrive in sizes of 44 or 40 millimeters for the Galaxy Watch 6 and 47 or 43 millimeters for the Classic.
In the field of tablets, Samsung presents the Galaxy Tab S9 series, which offers dust and water resistant options with an IP68 rating, allowing them to be submerged up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes. These tablets stand out for their 11, 12.4 and 14.6 inch screens, automatically adjusting brightness to optimize viewing in bright conditions. Thinness and power converge with a thickness of less than six millimeters and a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 2 processor, providing robust performance and a variable refresh rate between 60Hz and 120Hz.
Samsung has redefined the world of mobile devices with these latest additions, marking a breakthrough in interaction, productivity and visual experience for consumers. With innovations ranging from larger foldable displays to advanced smartwatches and rugged tablets, Samsung continues to demonstrate its leadership in the field of mobile technology.
